Fendi

Fendi is one of Italy's most important fashion house, well known for its unique creations all over the world.

The Fendi luxury empire started in 1925 when Eduardo and Adele Fendi opened the doors of their small leather and fur store in Via del Plebiscito in the center of Rome.

Having its own workshop, the firm quickly became very popular and in 1932 the Fendi family opened another shop, this time on Via Piave. Over time, they opened many more shops to sell their creations. Nowadays, there are 6 Fendi shops on Via Borgognona alone.

An important step in the development of the business was the marriage in 1965 between the German designer Karl Lagerfeld and one of Adele’s daughter which proved to be a success for both companies.

Fendi’s first couture collection, designed by Lagerfeld was launched in 1966. It immediately found success abroad and the President of Bloomingdales, Marvin Traub, introduced Fendi’s leather works into the United States.

They continued to evolve and managed to discover new ways of working with leather that reduced costs and made them more accessible to the public.

In 1999, Vuitton and Prada bought 51 percent of Fendi’s shares. The new owner's goal is to transform Fendi into the biggest fashion firm in Italy and, eventually, in the world.

Even so, the Fendi family is still in charge. Carla Fendi is the only sister still involved. Silvia Venturini, Anna’s daughter, is the director of men’s fashions and Karl Lagerfeld is still designing the fur and women lines.

What's New With Fendi

Shoes Were Central To The Fendi and D&G Shows
Shoes are contemporary jewelry, designer Donatella Versace once said, and in recent years they have become an integral part of a designer’s fashion statement. Armani one season ennobled the running shoe by pairing it with chiffon evening wear. In the 1990s the stiletto became a symbol for racy chic. More recently, prewar platforms and wedges thought [...]
