Earlier today, I was looking to put together more information for my Venetian glass jewelry page and I had one the most beautiful surprise. I discovered Briciole D’Oro which has some of the most beautiful Murano earrings and pendants I’ve ever seen.
Surprisingly, there’s nothing I could find out about the company itself. As big as the internet is, there’s not even a small page, a Twitter account or a Facebook page to let us know who’s behind them.
However, by closely analyzing the jewels they make, I realize that they make extensive use of the old technique of aventurine.
When thinking of murano glass techniques, many people immediately point to millefiori.
That is definitely one of the most popular methods used by the glass workers. Antica Murrina makes extensive use of it for instance.
However, it’s not the only one. Aventurine is just as old, but unlike millefiori, it consists of putting together clear pieces of glass with thin foils of gold. It’s not just putting them together. It’s all about creating a beautiful composition that sparks an emotion.
The level of detail Briciole D’Oro can produce is unbelievable. If you take a closer look at this heart pendant, you’ll notice there’s a scene with a hummingbird flying to collect the nectar from a couple of red flowers. Similar scenes are drawn on the earrings too.
I think that’s definitely something that puts a smile on your face and brightens your day.
Of course, they use silver besides gold, because it allows them to create some truly breathtaking accents. By mixing gold, silver and colored glass, you obviously get something beautiful.
However, I think that the best effects are those made with clear, transparent glass. Simple works better in this case.
Make sure to take a closer look at the Briciole D’Oro murano jewels here. I’m sure you’ll like them.
